STUDY SKILL RECOMMENDATIONS
~ Keep up with the work. The homework assignments are meant to give you the information you will need to be successful in applying the information during class. By doing the homework every night you will find yourself in a strong position to excel on quizzes and tests. You will also have more time in class to work with me to have your questions answered.
~ Organize your materials. Please keep an organized IN9 notebook, either in a 3-ring binder or on your computer. Make sure you save all of your notes for the entire year as-well-as all quizzes and tests. You will want to refer to these items later in preparation for your exams.
~ Find a quiet place to study. Please do not work while watching t.v., texting your friends, looking at facebook, or in any other way being distracted by your surroundings.
~ Make good use of extra help. There are many resources available for helping you when youa re having difficulty with the material. Also, make sure you make use of the peer resources you have available in class.
~ Show your work, ALL THE TIME! Showing your work is not just important on tests; you should get in the habit of showing your work on all examples, classwork, and homework problems. Showing your work helps you understand the algebraic principles in a deeper way. By showing your work, youare more aware of how to reach a solution.
~ Make Corrections. Please make corrections on all assignment problems that you get wrong the first time. Redo only the incorrect problems by reworking them entirely on a separate part of the assignment. Resubmit them with the original assignment and I will give you half credit back.
~ Attend All Offered Study Sessions. I will try and offer a study session after school from 2:40 until 4:15 before every test. I will send an e-mail to notify you of the time and date approximately 3-5 days before the scheduled study session. These sessions offer additional study preparation for the test.
~ Work neatly. Show your work neatly and ALWAYS use a pencil so that you can easily make necessary changes.
~ Celebrate your achievements. Be proud of the work that you are doing and remind yourself that mistakes are okay, as long as you learn from them.
